# Plans and billing

> Free, Pro and Premium: what each includes and how to upgrade

Every new account starts on **Free**. There is no trial.

Pro and Premium have the same features; Premium has bigger limits. Prices are shown on the Billing page.

## What locked looks like

On Free, locked pages stay in the sidebar with a lock and the plan name. Opening one shows what the feature does and an **Upgrade to Pro** button (admins) or *Ask your firm's admin to upgrade* (everyone else).

## Upgrading

**Settings › Plan and Billing**. Choose Monthly or Annually (two months free), set the number of seats, and press **Start now**. Stripe's secure page takes a card; you're brought back to TaxLayer and the upgrade applies within a few seconds. For firms, the client line is added at your actual client count.

After upgrading, documents held over the Free limit are processed automatically.

## AI credits

The meter on the Billing page shows plan credits and purchased credits. What uses them:

* Reading one uploaded document: 5 credits
* One chat message: 2 credits
* One *Ask AI* question on a figure, or a prompt *Generate*: 1 credit

Reports and agents don't use credits. Plan credits reset monthly; purchased credits never expire. **Buy AiCredits** opens the packs. Separately, every organisation has a fixed monthly AI usage ceiling that credits don't lift.

## Cancelling

**Cancel Pro** on the Billing page. You keep the plan until the end of the period, then move to Free automatically. Email inboxes and WhatsApp scanners are switched off when you move to Free; nothing is deleted.

## Failed payments

The Billing page shows *Payment failed*. Stripe retries; if it gives up, the account moves to Free. There's no in-app card update yet — contact support to change your card.
