# Sign up and setup

> Creating an account and the three setup steps

## Create your account

1. On the sign-in page, choose **Sign up**.
2. Enter the business's **VAT number** (9 digits, with or without EL) and press **Look up**. The registered legal name, trade name, tax office and address appear. If it says *No business was found for this VAT number*, check the digits.
3. Press **Next** and fill in your first and last name, email, an optional mobile number, and a password (at least 8 characters, with an uppercase letter, a number and a symbol).
4. Press **Sign Up**. You are signed in immediately.

Look up fills in the registered business from the VAT number

The language menu (top right, **EN** / **ΕΛ**) sets the language for your account.

## Setup: three steps

**Step 1 of 3 — Tell us how you'll use TaxLayer**

* **Accounting firm** — you handle the books for many client companies. Each client has its own myDATA codes, documents and figures.
* **Business** — you keep the books for one company, yourself or with your own team.

> There is no setting to change this afterwards. If you pick the wrong one, contact support.

**Step 2 of 3 — What do you want to use TaxLayer for?**

Tick any of the four. Unticked areas are hidden from the sidebar, not deleted; an admin can bring them back from **Settings › Pages**.

**Step 3 of 3 — Connect and sync your ERPs**

Press **Skip for now**. Connections are part of the Pro plan, and every new account starts on Free. You can connect later from **Connections** once you upgrade.

## First landing

Admins see a connect window once, on first landing. Choose **Later** to close it for this session, or **Don't show again**.

* **Business:** *Connect your sources* — your myDATA codes and your bank.
* **Firm:** *Connect your clients' sources* — either **Do it yourself** (add each client's myDATA codes and bank) or **Let your clients do it** (send a link; the client connects their own). Both routes start from **Add your first client** / **Invite a client**.

The line at the bottom holds for every screen in TaxLayer: *We only read. We never pay, move money or file anything on your behalf.*

Accounting firm

A **Getting started** pill in the sidebar tracks the basics: add your myDATA codes and upload a document.

## Signing in later

Email and password. **Remember me** keeps your email in this browser. There is no two-factor sign-in or Google sign-in.

If you forget your password, use **Forgot Password?** — a reset link valid for 10 minutes is emailed to you.
